Dabu or Daboo printing is a mud-resist technique of hand block printing carried out primarily in the Bagru region of Rajasthan. What differentiates this technique from other hand block printing techniques is the application of a muddy paste made from gum, lime and wheat chaff. This paste is applied using hand block prints on the fabric. The fabric is then dried. The dried fabric is then hand dyed with natural colours which dyes the entire fabric except the area covered with the muddy paste (mud-resist). This technique can be carried out once or several times depending upon the intricacy of the design.
