Bagh Hand Block Printed Dress Material
Bagh is a hand block printing technique from the Bagh village in Dhar, Madhya Pradesh. The craft derived its name from the river Baghini which flows through the village and is the very backbone of this fascinating craft. Bagh prints are inspired by nature and use geometric and floral designs made using finely chiseled wooden blocks. The colours used in these prints are vegetable dyes, made entirely using organic and natural elements. These dyes are eco-friendly, skin friendly and non-toxic. The practice of washing the bagh textile multiple times during the dyeing and printing process, in the Baghini river has another fascinating significance for this craft. The river is said to be resplendent with high quantities of lime and iron. These elements act as fastening and cleansing agents for the Bagh textiles. Infact, Bagh textiles are known to maintain their colour and shine for a long time even after the multiple washes.
