Kalamkari sarees are indigenous to the States of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Historically, Kalamkari used to be known as Patachitra, literally meaning, drawing on canvas. In ancient India, groups of singers, artists and painters would travel to different parts of India to relating stories of Hindu gods, temples and mythology in a form of drawings created on huge canvases while telling the stories. These Patachitra’s are now put on cottons and other fabric to create beautiful garments. While the art still remains the same, use modern day use of Kalamkari has shown how traditional art can be transformed into modern chic outfits.
